Allandale in Austin

North Central Austin is the home to a popular community called Allandale in Austin. The community boasts a population of about 9,800. It’s popular with all ages and demographics mostly due to its selection of houses, duplexes, condos and apartments both for sale and for lease. Allandale also has close proximity to downtown Austin which allows its residents the comfort of a close-knit community with the luxuries of an easily accessible urban nightlife.

Homes for sale in Allandale have a typical build date in the 1950s and 1960s. Buyers can find reasonably priced, mid-sized homes in the neighborhood. Because of the community’s early establishment, the lots tend to be fairly large and often feature mature trees. Many of the homes have been updated and expanded upon in recent years, so buyers who are looking for more modern finishes are likely to find just what they’re looking for in this established community.

Some Features of the Allandale Community

In addition to close and easy access to downtown Austin, Allandale residents benefit from the abundance of great eateries, renowned retail shopping options and great recreational activities. Allandale is also close to Austin’s high-tech corridor featuring employers like Apple, Amazon, Hewlett Packard and Amazon. Many more of Austin’s top tech employers are within miles of the Allandale community. 

There are also a selection of historical parks in Allandale, such as the Beverly S. Sheffield Park and the Lucy Read School Park. Northwest Park is another popular destination that offers activities such as swimming, tennis courts, basketball, baseball and a children’s playground. Students in the community attend Austin ISD schools such as Gullet or Wooten Elementary, Burnet or Lamar Middle School and Lanier or McCallum High School.

Allandale Community Activities

Residents in the community benefit from a very active neighborhood association. The neighborhood still maintains some of its popular traditions such as its annual 4th of July parade (started in 1960 by the Rev. John Lovett). There is also the tradition of decorating yards across the neighborhood with six-foot tall candy canes during the holidays. Every spring, the Allandale residents take advantage of the annual community-wide garage sale.
