Cherrywood Community Details
Located along the east side of Interstate Highway 35 in Austin, Cherrywood is after the main road that cuts through the neighborhood: Cherrywood Road. Since it was established in the 1930s and built out in the 1960s, the community offers a variety of home styles. The different home styles lend to the unique and quirky feel that the community is known for. It’s attracted artists, professionals and students and has become an iconic Austin neighborhood.
Sometimes referred to as “French Place,” it encompasses the following communities:
Delwood
Schieffer
University Park
Cherrywood has a mix of small bungalows that can be around 800 sqft, up to larger homes getting over 2,000 sqft. Homes range in size from around 1200 sq. ft. to 1600 sq. ft.
What’s In Cherrywood
The community is very walkable and offers great places to eat, shop and hang out. Some of the more notable restaurants include El Chile, Thunderbird Coffee, Salty Sow, Eastside Café and Haymaker. There’s also a strong coffee culture here, with most of the coffeeshops locally-owned. Cherrywood Coffeehouse is one great example. Groceries are provided by Fiesta grocery store.
Recreation in the area includes jogging and biking trails, walking through Boggy Creek Park and playing by the creekside. There are also tennis courts and playscapes for more active recreation.
